Tom Felton, renowned for his portrayal of Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series, is set to reprise his iconic role on Broadway. Starting November 11, Felton will join the cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child for a 19-week engagement, concluding on March 22, 2026, at the Lyric Theatre. This marks a significant milestone as it will be Felton’s Broadway debut and the first time a member of the original film cast has participated in the stage production.

The play, which unfolds 19 years after the events of the original series, explores the lives of Draco, Harry, Ron, and Hermione as they navigate parenthood, sending their children off to Hogwarts. Felton’s return to the role is not just a professional achievement but a personal journey, as he steps into the shoes of Draco at the same age the character is depicted in the play.

Felton’s Theatrical Journey

Beyond his work in the Harry Potter franchise, Felton has been actively involved in various film and theater projects. Recently, he appeared in They Will Kill You, alongside Zazie Beetz and Patricia Arquette, and Fackham Hall with Thomasin MacKenzie and Damian Lewis. His theatrical prowess was showcased in 2022 when he made his West End debut in 2:22 A Ghost Story, and in 2024, he starred in Gareth Farr’s play A Child of Science at Bristol Old Vic.

Felton expressed his excitement about returning to the world of Harry Potter, stating,

“Being a part of the Harry Potter films has been one of the greatest honours of my life. Joining this production will be a full-circle moment for me, because when I begin performances in Cursed Child this fall, I’ll also be the exact age Draco is in the play. It’s surreal to be stepping back into his shoes – and of course his iconic platinum blond hair – and I am thrilled to be able to see his story through and to share it with the greatest fan community in the world.”

About ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany. Written by Thorne and directed by Tiffany, the production has captivated audiences on Broadway since April 2018. Initially presented in two parts, the play has been streamlined to a single part, running under three hours, enhancing its accessibility and appeal.

The announcement of Felton’s involvement comes as the production continues to draw significant attention and acclaim. The play’s adaptation from a two-part, five-hour epic to a more concise format has been a strategic move to maintain its momentum and reach a broader audience.

Broadway and Beyond

Felton’s participation in the Broadway production underscores the enduring legacy of the Harry Potter franchise and its ability to evolve across different media. His return is expected to attract both die-hard fans of the series and theater enthusiasts, eager to witness the magic of Harry Potter brought to life on stage.

As Felton prepares to join the Broadway community, the anticipation among fans and critics alike is palpable. His performance is poised to offer a fresh yet nostalgic perspective on a beloved character, bridging the gap between the cinematic and theatrical worlds of Harry Potter.

Looking ahead, Felton’s involvement in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child could pave the way for more film actors to explore stage roles, enriching the theatrical landscape with their cinematic experiences and drawing new audiences to Broadway.
