Proton Mail Launches Revamped Mobile Apps for Faster Experience

Proton Mail has unveiled its redesigned mobile applications for both Android and iOS, aiming to enhance user experience with a focus on speed, privacy, and usability. The updated apps, which are now being rolled out in the App Store and Play Store, feature a completely rebuilt architecture that promises to deliver a “cleaner, faster and more private experience.”
The new version of Proton Mail allows users to scroll, archive, and reply to messages at twice the speed of the previous iteration. In addition to improved performance, the applications now include an offline mode, enabling users to read, write, and organize their emails without an internet connection. The interface has been redesigned for easier navigation, with key features such as the composer button positioned within reach for user convenience.
Technical Enhancements and Community Feedback
Both the iOS and Android apps now share a common codebase, with approximately 80 percent of their code being identical. This strategic move is expected to facilitate quicker development and allow for simultaneous updates across both platforms in the future. The product lead, Anant Vijay Singh, attributed the successful update to the feedback received from Proton’s community and its commitment to a user-centric business model.
“The new Proton Mail mobile apps reflect this feedback and show what is possible if you build an email app without the constraints imposed by trying to monetize user data,” Singh stated. He emphasized that the result is a platform that prioritizes a cleaner, faster, and more private experience for users.
Proton Mail has been active in improving its offerings. The company is also focusing on an overhaul of Proton Calendar, aiming to implement similar user experience enhancements. Additionally, this summer, Proton entered the competitive landscape of AI with its chatbot, Lumo, which is positioned as a more ethical alternative in the realm of artificial intelligence.
As of today, users can begin downloading the updated Proton Mail applications, marking a significant step in the company’s ongoing efforts to innovate while adhering to its principles of privacy and user trust.
