Buffalo Trace Launches New Weller Whiskeys Priced Up to $7,500
Buffalo Trace Distillery has introduced two new premium offerings in its wheat-based whiskey line, featuring a hefty price tag for enthusiasts. The distillery, located in Frankfort, Kentucky, launched the second edition of the Weller Millennium and a new Weller 18 Year Old expression this month, each crafted to highlight the brand’s commitment to quality and innovation.
The Weller Millennium is a unique blend of vintage straight wheated bourbon and wheat whiskeys distilled in 2001, 2003, and 2006. Each whiskey component was specifically chosen for this exclusive release. “Weller Millennium was crafted to feature some of the first whiskeys distilled in the new millennium amid a period of transformation at Buffalo Trace Distillery,” stated Andrew Duncan, Global Brand Director at Buffalo Trace Distillery. The whiskey presents flavor notes of dark cherry, butterscotch, and vanilla, culminating in an oak-forward finish.
This limited edition is housed in a striking 750ml crystal decanter, complete with a custom crystal topper that showcases Weller’s original “W” stamp. With a proof of 99, it comes presented in an illuminated display case that highlights the proportions and distillation years of the included whiskeys. Due to its exclusivity, the Weller Millennium carries a suggested retail price of $7,500.
Weller 18 Year Old: A New Benchmark
In addition to the Millennium, the Weller 18 Year Old marks the oldest age-stated whiskey in the Weller portfolio. This 90-proof wheat whiskey is presented in a 700ml crystal decanter, although it does not include a display case. It is characterized by notes of aged fruits and tobacco on the nose, with flavors of baking spices and green pear on the palate.
The initial release of the Weller 18 Year Old will be available through Global Travel Retail at select international airports, including LAX, JFK, and London Heathrow. Its suggested retail price is $499.
Both releases signify Buffalo Trace’s innovative approach to whiskey production, utilizing wheat grain instead of the more traditional rye. This choice results in a slightly sweeter and smoother profile compared to spicier rye whiskeys, appealing to a broad range of whiskey enthusiasts.
