Polk County senior Zalen McCraw reached a significant milestone on Saturday afternoon, equalling the school’s record for career wrestling wins. Competing at the John Clark Memorial Duals held at Madison High School, McCraw secured his third victory of the day, bringing his total to 164 wins and matching the long-standing record set by Austin Ollis nearly two decades ago.

During the event, McCraw showcased his skills by finishing the day with a 3-1 record. His only defeat came against Sy Strobel of West-Oak, who is currently undefeated this season and earned All-American honors at the National High School Coaches Association High School Nationals last year. This loss marked McCraw’s first of the season, reducing his record to 41-1.

Historic Achievement in Wrestling

McCraw’s path to this achievement included a win by forfeit, along with impressive pins against Jayceemae Erwin from Mitchell and Nathan Morrow from Franklin. With this victory, McCraw not only tied Ollis’s record but also added to the legacy of Polk County wrestling. Ollis held the record from 2003 to 2007 with a career record of 164-11, a mark that remained unchallenged for 18 years.

As McCraw celebrates this historic milestone, he remains focused on the upcoming challenges. Polk County will return to action on Tuesday in a Western Highlands Conference quad match at Hendersonville. The stakes will be high as McCraw aims to further his record and lead his team in the competitive landscape of high school wrestling.

This achievement not only highlights McCraw’s dedication and talent but also reflects the strong wrestling culture at Polk County. The community is proud of its athletes, and McCraw’s success serves as inspiration for future wrestlers in the area.

With the dual match approaching, all eyes will be on McCraw to see how he builds on this remarkable achievement and what further records he may set in the future.
