The women’s college hockey landscape is poised for a shake-up as teams head into October. The reigning national champion, the Wisconsin Badgers, solidified their top ranking with a decisive 5-0 victory over Bemidji State on Saturday. This win not only counts towards the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) standings but also marks Wisconsin’s 100th victory against the Beavers in program history.

During the match, Wisconsin took control early, scoring three goals in the final five minutes of the first period. Adéla Šapovalivová, Maggie Scannell, and Cassie Hall found the net, while goalkeeper Ava McNaughton recorded her first shutout of the season with 12 saves.

In another key matchup, No. 12 UConn faced off against No. 13 St. Cloud State, where junior forward Livvy Dewar scored the game-winning goal, leading UConn to a 2-1 victory and splitting their series. The lone goal for St. Cloud came from Sydney Bryant, who converted a penalty shot in the second period. Both teams are now in contention to rise in the upcoming rankings.

Potential Rankings Changes

As the rankings are updated, several teams show potential for upward movement. No. 3 Minnesota dominated Boston College, winning 7-1 and 11-0 in their recent matches. Although No. 2 Ohio State has yet to play, Minnesota’s striking performance, combined with a 18-1 aggregate score against one of the top teams in the East, positions them well for a ranking increase.

No. 10 Quinnipiac also swept Maine, although both games were tightly contested, including an overtime win. This performance could see them move higher in the standings as well.

On the other hand, No. 9 St. Lawrence is likely to drop out of the top ten after being swept by No. 8 Penn State. The Saints’ struggles on the ice could cost them their position, while No. 7 Clarkson managed to split their two games against Merrimack, which might also affect their ranking.

As teams prepare for Puck Drop on September 28, 2025, a full schedule and results will be available daily. This dynamic season continues to unfold, promising exciting matchups and potential surprises in the rankings.

With the competitive spirit alive in women’s college hockey, fans can look forward to an electrifying month of October as teams battle it out on the ice.
