Texas Tech Secures Commitment from Elite QB Kavian Bryant
Texas Tech University has bolstered its football program by securing a commitment from four-star quarterback Kavian Bryant, one of the top prospects in the 2027 recruiting cycle. The announcement came on the evening of October 14, 2023, as Bryant chose the Red Raiders over strong contenders such as Texas, Florida State, Colorado, and SMU.
Bryant, who hails from Palestine, Texas, is ranked as the No. 2 overall quarterback in the 2027 class by ESPN and is listed as No. 47 in the ESPN Junior 300. Standing at 6 feet 1 inch and weighing 180 pounds, he is recognized as a dual-threat passer with impressive statistics during his tenure at Palestine Westwood High School. Over his first two seasons, he threw for 4,724 yards and completed 67 touchdowns against just 10 interceptions, while also accumulating 1,521 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground.
Bryant emphasized that his decision was significantly influenced by Texas Tech’s outreach. “They reached out the most,” he told ESPN. “They came with the best offer and the best opportunity for me to play. I just feel like it’s the best fit.” This commitment marks the first offensive addition and the fourth overall commitment for Coach Joey McGuire in the Red Raiders’ 2027 recruiting class.
Building a Strong Recruiting Class
Kavian Bryant joins five-star defensive tackle Jalen Brewster, who committed to Texas Tech on October 4, 2023, as the program’s second top 100 recruit for the 2027 cycle. Alongside these promising prospects, Texas Tech has also secured commitments from defensive linemen K’Adrian Redmond (ranked No. 154) and Antonio Underwood (not ranked), adding depth to their roster.
Bryant’s recruitment process was marked by strong competition. While Texas, Florida State, and Colorado remained persistent until the end, Bryant noted that no other program pursued him with the same intensity as Texas Tech. His relationship with Red Raiders offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich played a critical role in his decision. “They really, really wanted me,” he said. “They watch my film every day. They show me what I’m good at and what I’m bad at, and I just listen. It’s part of why they’re the best.”
Looking ahead, Bryant is determined to help attract further elite talent to Texas Tech. He expressed confidence in his ability to lead the recruiting efforts, stating, “I feel like I can go in there and lead a class. And whether it’s as a true freshman or the next year, I feel like I can go there and win a national championship.”
Future Prospects for Texas Tech
The Red Raiders are anticipated to continue their aggressive recruitment strategy, targeting top prospects such as defensive tackle Georgia Toia (ranked No. 29 overall), wide receiver Julian Caldwell (ranked No. 40), and linebacker Kaden McCarty (ranked No. 91). With Bryant’s commitment, the program aims to build a standout class that can compete at the highest levels of college football.
Currently, Texas Tech’s 2026 recruiting class, which includes five-star pledges like linebacker LaDamion Guyton and offensive tackle Felix Ojo (ranked No. 24), is ranked No. 18 in ESPN’s evaluations. As the Red Raiders prepare for their upcoming game against Kansas State, they boast a strong offensive lineup, currently sitting at 7-1 and holding the nation’s fourth-ranked scoring offense.
Through strategic recruiting and player development, Texas Tech aims to enhance its football program, with Bryant poised to play a crucial role in shaping the team’s future success.
