Syracuse Football Dominates Colgate 66-24, Recruits Share Insights
Syracuse University secured a commanding victory over Colgate University with a score of 66-24 on September 29, 2023, at the JMA Wireless Dome. This win improved Syracuse’s season record to 2-1. Following the game, four recruits shared their thoughts on the team’s performance and their experiences with the program.
Recruits React to Impressive Offense
Among the recruits was Conor Drnek, a 2027 athlete from Dover Plains, New York. Drnek has been in contact with Syracuse since visiting during the spring practice and expressed his enthusiasm about the program. “So pumped about what is happening at the Cuse,” he stated. He praised the coaching staff’s commitment to excellence, emphasizing that accountability plays a significant role in the team’s success. Drnek intends to schedule another visit to Syracuse in the near future, showing keen interest in being part of the program.
Another notable recruit, Hudson Whitenight, an offensive lineman from Dripping Springs, Texas, also followed the game closely. Whitenight holds offers from multiple schools, including Arizona State and Nebraska. He has planned his first visit to Syracuse for October 31, 2023, when the Orange will face North Carolina. Whitenight was particularly impressed by the offensive performance, which included a total of 620 yards and six touchdowns by quarterback Steve Angeli, tying a program record. “Their pass protection and run attack was dominating,” he remarked, highlighting the offensive line’s role in the impressive performance.
Positive Experiences from Campus Visits
Recruits also included Joaquin Phillips, a defensive back from Ramsey, New Jersey. Phillips attended Syracuse’s overtime win against Connecticut the previous weekend and commented positively on the team’s victory over Colgate. “That’s a great win for them. They have a hard schedule. Every win counts,” he noted. His appreciation for the program grew after witnessing pre-game activities that contribute to the team’s preparation.
Another recruit, Michael Martin II, a running back from South Carolina, experienced the game day atmosphere for the first time. He had received an offer from Syracuse in May and participated in a camp in June. “It was amazing,” Martin said, recalling the excitement of the quad walk and the atmosphere inside the Dome. He described the experience as unique, stating, “College football in a dome is just different.” The enthusiastic student section added to his impression, reinforcing the reputation of the JMA Wireless Dome as “The Loud House.”
Lastly, Xavier Ratica, a tight end from Ohio, has also been in contact with Syracuse and received an invitation to a game day. Although he has not finalized a visit, Ratica has been following the team closely. He noted the strong performance of both the offense and defense, mentioning that it was encouraging to see tight ends actively involved in the passing game, including some freshmen. “Good game overall for the Orange,” he remarked, acknowledging the positive crowd turnout as well.
As Syracuse continues its season, the feedback from these recruits reflects a growing interest in the program. The Orange’s impressive performance against Colgate not only boosts their season record but also enhances their appeal to potential future players.
