Sebastián Muñoz Achieves Historic 59 at LIV Golf Event

In a stunning display of skill, Sebastián Muñoz recorded a remarkable score of 59 during the opening round of the LIV Golf event held at The Club at Chatham Hills near Indianapolis on March 15, 2024. This achievement marks the third sub-60 round in the circuit’s brief history, despite a challenging double-bogey that occurred earlier in the round.
Muñoz’s journey to a 12-under par included a significant setback on the par-4 fifth hole, where he incurred two penalty strokes, leading to a double-bogey 6. Undeterred, he bounced back spectacularly, sinking birdies on 13 of his final 14 holes. He capped off his round with a short birdie putt on the par-4 first hole, having started on hole No. 2 due to the shotgun format of the tournament.
A Historic Round in LIV Golf History
With his impressive performance, Muñoz took a commanding three-shot lead over fellow competitor Dustin Johnson after the first round. He now joins an elite group of players in LIV Golf, becoming only the third individual to break the 60 barrier since the league’s inception in 2022. Joaquín Niemann previously achieved a score of 59 at Mayakoba in 2024, while Bryson DeChambeau recorded a 58 at Greenbrier in 2023, with both players also finishing at 12 under.
Muñoz, who currently ranks seventh in the LIV player standings this season, is among three players in the top ten without a win this year, alongside Jon Rahm and Carlos Ortiz. As the tournament progresses, the individual champion will be crowned this week, adding further excitement to the competition.
This exceptional round not only highlights Muñoz’s talent but also underscores the increasing competitiveness within LIV Golf, as players continue to push the limits of the sport.
