Trysten Shaw, a promising wide receiver from Mesquite High School in Texas, has received an offer from Syracuse University, which he describes as a “dream come true.” The athlete is part of the 2027 recruiting class and has attracted significant attention, amassing over half a dozen offers from notable programs, including UCLA, Pittsburgh, Missouri, and Utah. His total number of offers is approaching 20 as he continues to gain recognition in the competitive landscape of college football.
Excitement Surrounding Syracuse Offer
Shaw’s enthusiasm for the Syracuse program is palpable. After discussing his skills with Devin Redd, the assistant running backs coach, Shaw learned that Redd appreciated his film and ability to make significant plays. “He said he loved my film and my game speed,” Shaw noted in an interview with The Juice Online. “Coach said he couldn’t wait to get me on campus.”
Shaw looks forward to expanding his relationship with the Syracuse coaching staff, describing them as a “great group of coaches coming together.” This connection could play a vital role in his recruitment as he evaluates his options.
A Family Legacy in Football
Shaw’s connection to football runs deep within his family. His younger brother, Tierney Shaw, a wide receiver in the 2028 class, has also garnered attention from high-major programs, including an offer from Syracuse earlier in July. “We laughed and said it would be a deadly combination,” Shaw shared. “And our parents could come see us ball together on the college field. We vibe off of each other. It would be really awesome.”
The Shaw brothers’ athletic prowess can be traced back to their father, Terrance Shaw, who played in the NFL from 1995 to 2004. Terrance was a Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots in 2001, concluding his career with impressive stats that included 472 tackles and 11 interceptions. He also had a successful college career at Stephen F. Austin before being selected as the 34th overall pick in the 1995 NFL Draft.
“Dad playing college and the NFL, he has life experience and he always tells us to keep our head down and just ball,” Shaw explained. “Everything will come with hard work and dedication. Focus on our grades and playing the game at hand right now.”

As he navigates the recruitment process, Shaw is considering what he seeks in a college experience. He expressed a desire for a program that feels like home, emphasizing the importance of a leadership-oriented coaching staff. “Everything starts at the top,” he stated, reflecting on lessons learned from his father’s experiences. Shaw aims to compete for playing time in his first year while pursuing a degree in law, inspired by his mother.
So far, Syracuse stands out among his potential choices, alongside schools like Baylor, Washington, Illinois, Ole Miss, and Arkansas. “I’m going to give them all the same respect for offering me,” he affirmed. Shaw’s competitive nature is evident on the field, where he describes himself as “fast, quick, great hands, smooth, and a twitchy route runner.” He prides himself on his ability to make explosive plays, particularly in situations that allow for significant yardage after the catch.
