The latest Major League Soccer (MLS) Power Rankings have seen a shift at the top, with the Philadelphia Union moving ahead of Inter Miami CF after a weekend of competitive matches. The rankings reflect the performances of all 30 teams as the 2025 season progresses, and the analysis reveals which clubs are gaining momentum and which are struggling.

Philadelphia Union’s Resilience

Following a midweek victory against CF Montréal, the Union faced the Houston Dynamo on short rest. Despite a lineup rotation by coach Bradley Carnell, Philadelphia managed to secure a point in a 1-1 draw. While the match was not particularly thrilling, it underscored the Union’s reputation as a tough opponent to defeat.

In contrast, Inter Miami’s recent form has been tumultuous. After suffering a loss to FC Cincinnati, they faced a challenging start against the New York Red Bulls, going down within the first 15 minutes. However, superstar Lionel Messi turned the tide with a spectacular assist and two goals, leading Miami to a commanding 5-1 victory.

Other Teams Making Their Mark

The rankings also highlight the success of Nashville SC, which bounced back from a previous defeat by winning two matches in one week. Nashville defeated Columbus Crew 3-0 and followed up with a narrow 1-0 win against Toronto FC, solidifying their place in the upper echelon of the league.

Meanwhile, San Diego FC faced a challenging matchup against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Despite starting two rookies on defense, San Diego managed to earn a 1-1 draw, showcasing their ability to adapt under pressure.

The Columbus Crew celebrated a breakthrough with Dániel Gazdag finally scoring his first goal for the team in a 2-1 win over D.C. United. This victory brought some much-needed positivity to the Crew’s season.

In a notable performance, FC Cincinnati secured a late 1-0 victory against Real Salt Lake, thanks to a goal from Luca Orellano in the 87th minute. This win came after a significant 3-0 triumph over Inter Miami earlier in the week, highlighting Cincinnati’s growing confidence.

As the season continues, teams like the Seattle Sounders and Orlando City are also looking to build on recent successes. The Sounders celebrated a 3-2 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes, although they remain concerned about the injury status of Jordan Morris.

On the other end of the rankings, D.C. United finds itself struggling at the bottom. A heavy 2-0 defeat to the Crew, compounded by a red card for Aaron Herrera, leaves the team in a dire position. The situation is similarly bleak for Atlanta United, which suffered a 3-2 loss to Charlotte FC, marking a challenging season for the Five Stripes.

As teams prepare for upcoming fixtures, the MLS landscape remains dynamic, with shifts in fortunes likely as clubs vie for playoff positions. The next round of matches promises to deliver further excitement and potential changes in the rankings.
