Padres’ Xander Bogaerts Lands on Injured List with Foot Fracture

The San Diego Padres have placed shortstop Xander Bogaerts on the 10-day injured list due to a non-displaced fracture in his left foot. This decision was made on March 15, 2024, after Bogaerts sustained the injury during a game against the Seattle Mariners. He fouled a ball off his foot but continued playing until post-game imaging confirmed the fracture.
Prior to the injury, Bogaerts had an impressive season, participating in 131 out of the Padres’ 134 games. He boasted a batting average of .262, with 49 runs batted in and a career-high 20 stolen bases. His performance had been a significant asset to the Padres as they competed in the National League West.
In response to the injury, the Padres have recalled infielder Mason McCoy from their Triple-A affiliate, El Paso. McCoy has already appeared in four games with the Padres this season and has shown promise at the Triple-A level, where he recorded a batting average of .272, along with 11 home runs and 59 RBIs over 90 games.
As the Padres navigate this setback, they find themselves two games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West standings. The team will aim to maintain its competitive edge while Bogaerts recovers from his injury. The impact of his absence will be closely monitored as the season progresses, with fans and analysts keenly aware of how it will affect San Diego’s playoff aspirations.
