Packers Announce Clayton Tune as Starting QB Against Vikings
The Green Bay Packers have confirmed that Clayton Tune will start at quarterback for their Week 18 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, despite Jordan Love clearing the concussion protocol. Head coach Matt LaFleur made the announcement on Thursday, indicating that Love will not return to the field this week.
Tune, who was elevated from the practice squad last week while Love remained in protocol, has now been signed to the 53-man roster. This decision comes as the Packers have already secured the seventh seed in the upcoming playoffs. Love is expected to prepare for a road start in the wild card round.
In the previous game against the Tennessee Titans, Malik Willis started but aggravated a right shoulder injury, leading to Tune’s involvement in the game. Tune’s performance included completing just 1 of 4 passes for eight yards and an interception during the 41-27 loss.
In a move to bolster their quarterback depth, the Packers signed Desmond Ridder to the practice squad on Wednesday. LaFleur has not yet made a decision regarding whether Ridder will be elevated to serve as Tune’s backup for the regular season finale.
The Packers will face the Vikings on Sunday, with Tune taking the helm in what is expected to be a crucial game as the team gears up for the playoffs.
