North’s All-Moir Team Highlights Dominance from 2000-2024
The North High School girls basketball program has showcased remarkable talent over the past two decades in the Moir Tournament, compiling a record of 27 wins and 33 losses from 2000 to 2024. During this period, the team secured three championships in 2002, 2013, and 2015, demonstrating their competitive spirit and skill on the court.
The Cavaliers achieved a perfect 9-0 record in the tournament during their championship years, but the team also faced challenges, experiencing winless years six times since 2000. The most challenging stretch came between 2009 and 2012, when they recorded only one win against eight losses in the event. Notably, North had successful campaigns in 2004, 2014, and 2019, each finishing with a 2-1 record.
All-Time Moir Team (2000-2024)
Leading the All-Time Moir Team is Sophilia Hipps, the team captain. Hipps participated in eleven Moir games, consistently performing at a high level with scoring totals of 21, 19, 15, 18, 21, 17, 19, 22, 20, 23, and 16. Over her tournament career, she accumulated a remarkable 211 points and earned the title of MVP in 2002 when the Cavaliers triumphed over Davie in the final.
Another standout player is Nycieko Dixon, who was named MVP in 2013. That year, North boasted a formidable all-star team, achieving their closest tournament victory with a decisive 20-point win against Davie in the semifinal. Dixon contributed significantly, scoring 47 points throughout the tournament. The Cavaliers exhibited championship potential during the Christmas period; however, they faced adversity when post player Brielle Blaire suffered a season-ending injury. Despite this setback, North dominated the Moir title game against a strong East team, winning 71-40.
