Jaguars Commit to WR Brian Thomas Jr. Amid Season Struggles
The Jacksonville Jaguars have confirmed that they will not trade wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., despite his challenging start to the 2025 season. Head coach Liam Coen stated on Monday, “We have no plans to move Brian Thomas. I’ve got a lot of confidence in him.” This announcement comes as Thomas navigates a difficult period in his second year with the team.
Thomas currently leads the Jaguars with 365 receiving yards and has made 27 receptions, placing him just behind teammate Travis Hunter, who has 28 receptions. Despite these statistics, Thomas is tied for second in the NFL with five drops, which is one more than he recorded during his rookie season in 2024. There have been instances where he has seemingly shied away from contact while attempting to make catches, raising concerns among fans and analysts alike.
Last season, Thomas showcased his potential by finishing third in the NFL with 1,282 receiving yards, trailing only standout players Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson. He also contributed significantly to the Jaguars’ offense with 10 touchdowns. Coen, who was appointed head coach in January, initially indicated that the passing offense would be centered around Thomas. However, ahead of the Jaguars’ upcoming Week 7 game against the Los Angeles Rams, Coen mentioned the need to call more plays that prioritize Hunter as the primary target.
As the Jaguars continue their campaign, they will be looking to support Thomas in regaining his form. The team’s management has publicly expressed faith in his abilities, signaling their commitment to his development and contribution moving forward.
