Week 8 of the FCS football season showcased a mix of thrilling upsets and standout performances from top-ranked teams. Notably, this week’s stock watch features three players who significantly boosted their prospects for the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft. Among them are an Ivy League wide receiver, a Southern Conference running back, and an edge rusher who is making waves in the FCS.

Jared Richardson Shines for Penn

Jared Richardson, a wide receiver from the University of Pennsylvania, delivered an impressive performance against Columbia University, recording six receptions for 157 yards and three touchdowns. His remarkable ability to gain 106 yards after the catch highlighted his agility and strength. Richardson’s skill set was fully displayed as he effectively handled intense press coverage, making a critical contested catch on a back-shoulder fade.

His capability to separate from defenders on in-breaking routes against man coverage demonstrated his advanced route-running. With top-end speed and physicality, Richardson is quickly emerging as one of the premier wide receiver prospects not only in the FCS but across the entire college football landscape.

Devontae Houston Dominates the Ground Game

In a standout display, Devontae Houston, a running back for East Tennessee State University, had his best game of the season against Chattanooga. Rushing for 171 yards on 23 carries with one touchdown, he also contributed two receptions for an additional 15 yards. Houston’s performance was marked by eight forced missed tackles and an impressive 5.9 yards after contact per attempt.

His agility and burst were evident throughout the game, as he showcased remarkable change of direction and finishing speed, particularly on a long touchdown run. Despite his smaller stature, Houston’s powerful leg drive allowed him to gain significant yardage after contact, totaling 136 yards in that category. He also displayed versatility by effectively serving as a lead blocker on several plays.

A.J. Pena’s Defensive Masterclass

On the defensive front, A.J. Pena of the University of Rhode Island had a standout performance against UAlbany, recording six tackles, four of which were solo. His season-high tally included four tackles for loss and four sacks, along with a forced fumble. Pena’s effective pass rush led to a 13.5% win rate, reflecting his ability to pressure the quarterback consistently.

Pena’s initial striking and anchoring skills in the run game, combined with his lower-body explosion, allowed him to reset the line of scrimmage effectively. He demonstrated an impressive bull rush capability, collapsing the pocket and drawing holding penalties against offensive linemen. His speed and agility are garnering attention as he establishes himself as a rising prospect in the FCS.

As the season progresses, these players are increasingly being recognized for their potential in the upcoming NFL Draft. Follow FCS Football Central on social media for ongoing coverage and insights into FCS football, including updates on platforms like X, Facebook, and YouTube.
