Colorado State University quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi has decided to leave the program and is set to enter the transfer portal, according to sources confirmed by ESPN. This decision follows the recent dismissal of head coach Jay Norvell, who was let go after a challenging fourth season with the Rams.

Fowler-Nicolosi served as the starting quarterback for the Rams in 28 games, accumulating impressive statistics during his tenure. Over four seasons, he recorded 6,938 career passing yards, ranking sixth among all active quarterbacks in the Group of 5 conferences. His performance included 45 total touchdowns and 34 turnovers.

The redshirt junior’s departure comes after he was benched for backup Jackson Brousseau during a closely contested game against UTSA on September 20, 2023. Since that match, which the Rams lost 17-16, Fowler-Nicolosi has not seen any game action. In his first three games of the current season, he threw for 488 yards, with one touchdown and three interceptions.

In his redshirt freshman year in 2023, Fowler-Nicolosi made a significant impact, emerging as the second-leading passer in the Mountain West Conference with 3,542 passing yards, earning 22 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. His efforts garnered him an honorable mention for all-conference recognition, while his 2,796 passing yards last season placed him third in the conference.

As Fowler-Nicolosi prepares to enter the transfer portal, he is expected to be one of the most experienced quarterbacks available when the window opens in January 2024. Notably, last year, Norvell revealed that Fowler-Nicolosi had turned down a lucrative offer worth $600,000 to transfer to Kansas State University after the 2023 season.

Currently, Brousseau has stepped in as the starting quarterback, demonstrating solid play with 741 passing yards, seven total touchdowns, and no interceptions this season. Meanwhile, the 2-5 Rams are preparing for an upcoming away game against Wyoming on Saturday.

Fowler-Nicolosi’s exit from the program was initially reported by The Coloradoan, marking a significant shift for Colorado State football as it transitions following the coaching change.
