bonafest-returns-to-allegany-with-family-fun-and-fundraising

The annual Bonafest fundraiser, dedicated entirely to supporting the operations of St. Bonaventure Parish in Allegany, will take place on July 14, 2023, from 16:30 to 19:00 at the Allegany American Legion. This much-anticipated event promises a vibrant family atmosphere featuring a barbecue chicken dinner accompanied by traditional sides and live music.

Bonafest committee member Judy French expressed excitement about the return of this cherished event. “We are thrilled to be able to hold Bonafest again this year,” she stated. Attendees can enjoy a hearty meal of barbecue chicken, salt potatoes, vegetables, and rolls while listening to music from the band Generations.

As part of the festivities, a substantial raffle will be held, offering a total of $11,000 in cash prizes. The raffle drawing is scheduled for 19:00, with ticket purchases available before the event. Additionally, participants can look forward to a bake sale and basket raffles, which include themed baskets featuring items from the St. Bonaventure Golf Course and a collection dedicated to the Buffalo Bills. A variety of gift cards, lottery tickets, and cash prizes will also be available.

Tickets for the chicken dinner are priced at $15 and must be purchased in advance. French encouraged community members to join in the festivities, saying, “We invite you to come and enjoy a meal and music with us. We appreciate and thank you for your support.”

American Red Cross Calls for Blood Donations

In a related community initiative, the American Red Cross is urging individuals to donate blood or platelets to maintain a robust supply throughout the summer months. Currently, there is a particular need for Type O blood products, which are critical for various medical situations.

The summer season often presents challenges to blood collection due to holiday activities and severe weather conditions, which can disrupt donation schedules. It is essential for donors to book appointments and keep them to ensure that blood products are readily available for patients requiring transfusions in emergencies.

All blood types are needed, and individuals who are unsure of their blood type can find out after their donation. To schedule a donation, people can visit RedCrossBlood.org, call (800) RED CROSS, or use the Red Cross Blood Donor App.

Upcoming blood donation opportunities include:

– July 18, from 13:00 to 17:30 at Franklinville Fire Hall, 75 N. Main St.
