Bayern Munich Prepares for Future Without Harry Kane

Bayern Munich is assessing its future as speculation grows around the potential departure of star striker Harry Kane. The club’s recent transfer window was less than ideal, culminating in the late acquisition of Nicolas Jackson on loan from Chelsea. Jackson, who joined Bayern on transfer deadline day, will primarily serve as a backup to Kane but is also expected to take on a more prominent role as the team navigates life after the English forward.
According to journalist Raphael Honigstein via talkSPORT, Bayern is bracing itself for Kane’s exit, as the 32-year-old striker is likely to leave before his contract expires in 2027. Kane, who joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 for a club-record fee of €100 million plus €10 million in bonuses, has quickly established himself as a key player, netting 91 goals in 100 appearances. His departure would certainly leave a significant void in the squad.
While Bayern pursued other striking options during the summer, including Nick Woltemade, the club ultimately secured Jackson with an obligation to buy. The 24-year-old is seen as a stopgap solution who may evolve into a leading forward following Kane’s eventual departure.
Kane’s future remains a topic of interest, particularly given the limited striking talent available at top European clubs. Honigstein noted that Kane could return to the Premier League, where he might aim to surpass Alan Shearer‘s record as the league’s all-time top scorer. “People in Germany don’t expect Harry Kane to see out his career at Bayern necessarily,” Honigstein stated. He emphasized that both Kane and the club must make decisions regarding his future soon, especially with his contract running until 2027.
The urgency of planning for Kane’s potential exit is evident in Bayern’s recent moves in the transfer market. “They looked at Sesko, they looked at Woltemade, and they ended up with Jackson,” Honigstein explained. This indicates that Bayern is aware of the need for a successor and is preparing for different scenarios regarding Kane’s tenure at the club.
Despite the uncertainties surrounding his future, Kane remains focused on the current season. Bayern Munich aims to defend its Bundesliga title while also competing for the DFB Pokal and making a deeper run in the Champions League than last season. With the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon, Kane is determined to maintain his scoring prowess as he leads the English national team.
While a return to the Premier League is enticing, Kane may also consider other options, including a move to Barcelona, which is seeking a replacement for Robert Lewandowski next summer. The coming months will be critical as Bayern Munich navigates these challenges and prepares for a future that may look significantly different without their star forward.
