Aaron Pico Faces Long Recovery After Knockout Loss at UFC 319

Aaron Pico will be sidelined until at least 2026 following a knockout loss at UFC 319. The featherweight fighter, previously a standout in Bellator, suffered a devastating defeat when he was knocked out by a spinning back elbow from Lerone Murphy. This marked a disappointing debut for Pico in one of mixed martial arts’ most prestigious organizations.
Pico’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, confirmed that the athlete will not be allowed to compete for a minimum of six months due to the severity of the knockout. Abdelaziz has a strict policy for fighters under his management; anyone who experiences a severe knockout must take a significant break before returning to the octagon. “When guys get knocked out like that, I’m not gonna book him a fight for at least six months,” he stated in an interview with Submission Radio. “It’s not healthy for a fighter to go out like that and just try to come back early.”
Abdelaziz emphasized that Pico’s health is the priority and reassured fans that the fighter is recovering well. “He’ll be back. Don’t worry about it, honestly. He’s good, his health is good,” he added.
Pico addressed his loss on social media less than 24 hours after the fight, expressing gratitude for the support he has received. “Last night wasn’t my night, that’s the fight game,” he wrote on Instagram. He acknowledged the importance of both victories and defeats, stating, “Wins and losses both teach lessons and I’ll come back sharper, stronger, and better prepared.”
Support has poured in for Pico from fellow fighters. Notably, Justin Gaethje expressed confidence in Pico’s ability to bounce back, describing him as “one of the best in the world.” Islam Makhachev also shared a message of encouragement for Pico, reinforcing the sentiment that he has a strong network behind him as he prepares for his eventual return.
For now, Pico will focus on recovery and await the green light from Abdelaziz for his next fight. The MMA community is eager to see how Pico will respond to this setback, as he aims to return to the sport stronger than before.
