Kevin J. McAloon, Respected Engineer and Avid Enthusiast, Passes Away
Kevin J. McAloon, a respected engineer and avid outdoor enthusiast, passed away on September 16, 2025, at the age of 89. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of John H. McAloon and Eileen A. O’Sullivan McAloon. His life was marked by a commitment to both his professional career and personal passions, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Kevin completed his early education at Notre Dame Academy in Watsonville, California, and graduated high school from St. Ignatius High School in Chicago. Following high school, he served two years in the U.S. Army, an experience that shaped his character and work ethic. He then pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Detroit and a Master’s degree from the University of Southern California.
For three decades, Kevin contributed significantly to the aerospace industry, working with notable companies such as Douglas Aircraft, Northrop, and ultimately spending 23 years at TRW. He retired in 1992 but continued to share his expertise through part-time consulting roles at TRW and Northrop Grumman for an additional nine years.
In addition to his professional achievements, Kevin was passionate about outdoor activities. He enjoyed motorcycle riding—both dirt and street—often embarking on local and cross-country trips with his children. His athletic pursuits included completing four marathons, three of which he ran alongside his son, and participating in numerous 10K races. As his running days came to an end, he shifted his focus to cycling, relishing rides on the scenic Palos Verdes Peninsula and exploring the farm roads of the Sacramento Valley, where he developed a keen interest in farming technology.
Kevin is survived by his four children, including his daughter Karen, two grandchildren, Jack and Madeleine, and four nieces and nephews: Jack, Maureen, Jim, and Kathy. While his obituary captures the essence of his life succinctly, his family wishes to emphasize his wit, charm, kindness, and deep love for life—qualities that endeared him to many.
In their heartfelt tribute, his family stated, “He will be missed. May the wind always be at your back.” Kevin McAloon’s legacy will be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him and by the many lives he touched through his work and personal endeavors.
