Tomorrow, the U.S. Congress will hold a significant hearing titled “Restoring Public Trust Through UAP Transparency and Whistleblower Protection.” This event is organized by the Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets, which was established in January 2025 by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. The hearing will commence at 10 a.m. ET (1400 GMT) on September 9, 2025, and will feature three U.S. military veterans who will share their experiences with UAP, or unidentified anomalous phenomena—a term that expands the traditional concept of UFOs to include various strange objects or events observed in the sky, water, or even space.

The task force is chaired by Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.), who has been vocal about the need for transparency regarding UAPs. In her statements, Luna emphasized that the American people deserve answers about various government secrets, asserting, “It is time to give Americans the answers they deserve. We will also investigate UAPs/USOs, the Epstein client list, COVID-19 origins, and the 9/11 files.”

Luna’s focus during the hearing will be on compelling Congress to reconsider the classification of information relating to UAPs. She stated, “The American people deserve maximum transparency from the federal government on sightings, acquisitions, and examinations of UAPs and whether they pose a potential threat to Americans’ safety.”

In addition to the military veterans, the hearing will feature investigative journalist George Knapp. Knapp is known for his long-standing claims that the U.S. government is concealing evidence of UFOs and potential extraterrestrial life. His career gained significant attention in the late 1980s while working as an anchor for KLAS-TV in Las Vegas, where he supported the controversial claims of figures like Bob Lazar and John Lear.

Bob Lazar has alleged that he worked at the secretive Area 51 facility, claiming to have reverse-engineered crashed UFOs, a statement that remains unverified. John Lear, a former CIA pilot, has promoted theories about government collusion with extraterrestrial beings.

Luna aims for the hearing to establish a framework for protecting whistleblowers who disclose information about UAPs. She noted, “Whistleblowers who provide details on spending information and policies and procedures regarding the classification and declassification of UAPs should be able to do so without retribution.”

Previous congressional hearings have echoed similar themes. For instance, in November 2024, former U.S. counterintelligence officer Luis Elizondo testified about a secretive arms race related to UAPs, suggesting that taxpayer dollars are misallocated to conceal information from elected representatives. Elizondo advocated for protections for whistleblowers, stating that those “desperate to do the right thing can come forward without fear.”

For decades, whistleblowers have been asserting that classified military and intelligence sensors capture evidence of unexplained phenomena, potentially linked to advanced craft piloted by non-human entities. They argue that the U.S. government’s classification of these records prevents the public from understanding the full scope of its surveillance capabilities, thereby withholding the truth from both Americans and the international community.

As the hearing unfolds, it will likely garner significant public interest, reflecting a growing demand for transparency on UAP matters. The ability of military personnel and whistleblowers to share their experiences and knowledge without fear of repercussions will be a central focus in the discussions aimed at restoring trust in government disclosures about unidentified phenomena.
