Sebastian Gurrola Ruiz, aged 88, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025. Renowned for his unwavering kindness and humor, he left a lasting impact on his family and community. Born on January 20, 1937, in Pico Rivera, California, Sebastian later moved to San Pedro, where he built a life with his beloved wife, Carmen Gurrola.
For 44 years, Sebastian dedicated himself to Caltrans, where he earned a reputation not only for his work ethic but also for his approachable nature. Colleagues and friends remember him fondly as a devoted family man, whose laughter and kindness brightened the days of those around him.
In addition to his professional achievements, Sebastian was a lifelong sports enthusiast and a skilled handyman. He found joy in music, adventurous road trips, and exploring the great outdoors. These passions allowed him to connect deeply with his family, as he often shared these experiences with his children and grandchildren.
Sebastian is survived by his wife Carmen, siblings, children, and grandchildren, who will all miss him dearly. His family described him as a cornerstone of their lives, whose love and support shaped their experiences.
A memorial service to honor Sebastian’s life will take place on October 4 at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, located at 1292 W Santa Cruz St, San Pedro. Friends, family, and community members are encouraged to attend and celebrate the life of a man who touched so many with his warmth and generosity.
