Miriam “Mimi” C. Brody, a dedicated volunteer and beloved member of the Torrance community, passed away on August 10, 2025, in Torrance, California. She was surrounded by her family and immersed in music that she cherished throughout her life. Mimi was born in 1927 in Los Angeles and spent most of her life in Southern California, except for her college years at the University of California, Berkeley.

After graduating, Mimi returned to Southern California, where she met and married Robert “Bob” Brody. The family relocated to Torrance in the late 1960s to support Bob’s career at Harvey Aluminum. This move marked the beginning of Mimi’s deep commitment to her community.

Legacy of Service at Torrance Memorial

Mimi’s volunteer journey began at Torrance Memorial, where she found not only a community but also a sense of purpose. She held various roles, including serving as the past president of the Auxiliary and co-managing the hospital gift shop multiple times. Her involvement extended to the out-patient pharmacy and information desks, where she was a welcoming presence for patients and visitors alike.

Remarkably, Mimi dedicated 56 years to volunteering at Torrance Memorial, amassing over 33,000 hours of service. Her commitment made her the longest-serving volunteer in the hospital’s history. Just one week before her passing, she fulfilled her regular volunteer shift, demonstrating her unwavering dedication even in her later years.

Mimi’s love for her community was matched only by her affection for the South Bay area. She enjoyed the beach, sunshine, and mild weather, which enriched her daily life.

Remembering a Remarkable Life

Mimi is survived by her daughters, Marilyn and Jill, along with her grandchildren, Rebecca and Daniel, and her great-granddaughter, Karlee. A memorial service was held at Green Hills on August 13, followed by a reception at Torrance Memorial on August 14. Family, friends, fellow volunteers, and hospital staff gathered to share stories and celebrate her remarkable life.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to be made to the Torrance Memorial Foundation in Mimi’s honor. Her legacy of kindness and service will continue to inspire those who knew her. Mimi will be dearly missed but forever remembered, and her memory will indeed be a blessing to all who were fortunate enough to be a part of her life.
