sara-waisglass-urges-critics-to-revisit-ginny-georgia-amid-renewed-popularity

Sara Waisglass, known for her role as Maxine Baker on the popular Netflix series Ginny & Georgia, has a message for viewers who were less than impressed with the show: give it another shot. On June 30, the 26-year-old actress took to TikTok, humorously suggesting that instead of switching to a different series, critics should consider rewatching Ginny & Georgia. “Thank you to everyone who has watched Ginny and Georgia season 3!!” she captioned her video, expressing gratitude for the audience’s continued support.

The series, which first premiered in 2021, follows the story of a young single mother, Georgia, who relocates her family to the fictional town of Wellsbury, Massachusetts, in an attempt to escape her tumultuous past. Alongside Waisglass, the show features a talented ensemble cast including Brianne Howey, Antonia Gentry, and Diesel La Torraca, among others.

The Show’s Growing Popularity

Ginny & Georgia has seen a steady rise in its fan base, culminating in its renewal for a fourth season even before the third season’s debut. This momentum is a testament to its widespread appeal and the compelling storytelling crafted by creator Sarah Lampert. Scott Porter, who plays Mayor Paul Randolph, shared his excitement with Us Weekly, stating, “Our creator, Sarah [Lampert], is an infinite well of stories. I’m sure we could spin this thing for an awful long time.”

Porter further expressed gratitude towards the show’s dedicated viewers, acknowledging their role in the series’ unexpected success. “We never expected the show to be a hit the way that it is — and it’s all because of you all. So thank you,” he remarked.

Challenges and Criticisms

Despite its success, Ginny & Georgia has not been immune to criticism. The third season aired after a two-year hiatus, largely due to the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which raised concerns among fans about potential casting changes. Specifically, Diesel La Torraca’s noticeable growth spurt led to speculation that his character, Austin, might be recast.

However, Sarah Lampert dismissed these concerns, emphasizing her commitment to continuity. “Anyone who works on the show will tell you I am fastidious about the details. I am just specific with so many things. Then things like Diesel growing five years [older], I’m like, ‘Whatever.’ Because you can’t control it,” she explained in an interview with Us Weekly. “We can’t recast. Diesel is Austin.”

Creative Solutions to On-Screen Challenges

La Torraca, now 14, addressed the logistical challenges of playing a character younger than his actual age. In an interview with Teen Vogue, he shared, “Well, honestly, we kind of ignore it a little bit! It’s kind of just like … there’s a 14-year-old sitting at the table with Harry Potter glasses on that’s supposed to be 9. And that’s OK!”

The show employed creative techniques to maintain the illusion, such as having La Torraca bend his knees or using props to adjust height differences with co-stars. “Playing a 9-year-old for six years when you are growing … I’ve grown with him, but I’ve also kind of departed from him because I was 8 when we started, now I’m 14,” he noted.

Looking Ahead: The Future of ‘Ginny & Georgia’

As Ginny & Georgia continues to evolve, its creators and cast remain hopeful for future seasons. The series has not only captured the hearts of its audience but also sparked discussions on themes of family, identity, and resilience. With its renewal for a fourth season, fans eagerly anticipate the next chapter in the lives of Georgia, Ginny, and the rest of the Wellsbury community.

For now, Ginny & Georgia remains available for streaming on Netflix, inviting both new viewers and returning fans to experience its unique blend of drama and humor.
