WNBA players have expressed their frustration following a second incident this week where a sex toy was thrown onto the court, disrupting a game. The latest incident occurred during the third quarter of the Golden State Valkyries’ 73-66 victory over the Chicago Sky on March 15, 2024. The bright green object landed just out of bounds beneath one of the baskets at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, prompting officials to halt the game while the toy was removed.

Sky center Elizabeth Williams voiced her displeasure to reporters, stating, “It’s super disrespectful. I don’t really get the point of it. It’s really immature. Whoever’s doing it just needs to grow up.” This latest disruption follows a similar occurrence just three days prior, during the Valkyries’ 77-75 win against the Atlanta Dream at Gateway Center Arena in College Park, Georgia.

In light of these events, several players across the league took to social media to share their disappointment and concern. Isabelle Harrison, a forward for the New York Liberty, called for better security measures, writing on X, “ARENA SECURITY?! Hello??! Please do better. It’s not funny. Never was funny. Throwing ANYTHING on the court is so dangerous.”

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham echoed this sentiment, urging fans to stop throwing objects onto the court, highlighting the potential danger to players by stating, “Stop throwing dildos on the court… you’re going to hurt one of us.”

Both incidents have raised significant concerns regarding player safety and the culture surrounding fan behavior at sporting events. The WNBA has not yet issued an official statement regarding these incidents, but the players’ reactions emphasize the need for immediate action to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

As the league continues to grow in popularity, maintaining a respectful and safe environment for players remains paramount. With the spotlight on these incidents, the WNBA may need to reassess their security protocols and fan engagement strategies to ensure the integrity of the game and the safety of its athletes.
