Former Vice President Kamala Harris has suggested that she may still have political ambitions after her 2024 presidential campaign ended in defeat. During a recent interview with BBC News, Harris expressed that she is “not done” with her political career, hinting at the possibility of another run for the presidency in the future. This comes after she opted not to pursue a bid for governor of California, a position that was briefly speculated earlier this year.

While promoting her book, titled 107 Days, Harris addressed questions about her political future. She acknowledged that her grandnieces might see a female president in their lifetime and indicated that it could “possibly” be her. Though not a definitive promise, her remarks have sparked speculation about her next steps in the political arena.

Harris reflected on her career, stating, “I have lived my entire career a life of service and it’s in my bones. There are many ways to serve.” Her commitment to public service was evident as she reiterated, “I have not decided yet what I will do in the future beyond what I am doing right now.”

During her appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Harris faced questions about her political trajectory. Colbert pointed out the early polling data that showed her leading potential candidates for the California governorship. With a playful tone, he inquired about her decision to step back, suggesting that she might be preparing for a different office. The audience responded enthusiastically, applauding the idea of a potential presidential run.

Harris confirmed that she had considered running for governor but ultimately decided to take a step back. “I thought a lot about running for governor,” she stated, “but I decided to take some time off.” Her ongoing book tour, which extends through November 2023, may provide her with the opportunity to reflect on her future in politics.

As she navigates this phase of her career, Harris continues to emphasize her dedication to public service, stating, “I am a devout public servant.” Her comments suggest that while she may be currently focused on her literary endeavors, the political landscape may still hold future opportunities for her.

With a mix of excitement and uncertainty surrounding her next moves, Harris’s statements leave the door open for a possible return to the political spotlight, keeping her supporters engaged and speculating about what lies ahead.
