House Democrats Challenge GOP on Epstein Signature Claims
During a recent congressional hearing, Representative Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) criticized his Republican colleagues for endorsing claims made by former President Donald Trump regarding the authenticity of his signature in a birthday book belonging to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Moskowitz’s comments came in response to Rep. James Comer (R-KY), Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, who stated that he would not investigate the matter further.
Moskowitz challenged Comer’s position, stating, “So this morning, our close personal friend Mr. Comer said that he was not going to look into the letter, or the doodle, the president’s doodle — he’s a decent doodler, by the way.” He expressed concern over the decision not to investigate the validity of the signature, emphasizing the importance of clarity given the document’s historical context.
He posed a provocative question to his colleagues: “This document is 22 years old. So you’re telling me someone 22 years ago went back to the future and forged his signature when he was a Democrat?” His remarks elicited laughter from fellow lawmaker Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-CA), highlighting the absurdity of the claims being discussed.
Moskowitz proposed a straightforward solution to settle the dispute: “Let’s bring in a signature expert. You guys pick the witnesses. Bring in your signature expert, swear them under oath, and let’s have the signature examined. Is it his or is it not his?” He argued that a definitive examination would clear any ambiguity surrounding the signature’s authenticity.
The Democratic representative stressed that both sides should agree to a neutral expert in order to avoid further disputes. “No, no, let’s bring in a signature expert, a referee, because we can’t agree on anything, even when it’s right in our face,” he said. “If it’s a forgery, we should immediately open up an investigation into this forgery.”
Moskowitz’s remarks reflect a growing frustration among Democrats regarding the handling of allegations related to Trump and his connections to Epstein. His call for an independent verification process underscores a desire for transparency and accountability in political discourse.
