Gunman Kills Four in Midtown Manhattan Office Shooting

A gunman opened fire in a notable office building in Midtown Manhattan on the evening of July 28, 2025, resulting in the deaths of four individuals, including a police officer, and critically injuring a fifth. The suspect, identified as Shane Tamura, 27, from Las Vegas, subsequently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident has raised significant concerns in the community and prompted a swift response from law enforcement.
During a briefing, New York City Mayor Eric Adams confirmed that the shooting occurred at a building that houses major firms such as the National Football League (NFL), KPMG, and Blackstone. The slain officer was named as Didarul Islam, a Bangladeshi immigrant who represented the best of the NYPD. Mayor Adams emphasized the dedication and bravery that Officer Islam displayed in protecting the public.
Initial reports indicate that the shooter was armed with an M4 rifle. According to Commissioner Jessica Tisch of the NYPD, surveillance footage captured the sequence of events, showing Tamura shooting a woman who sought refuge behind a pillar before he proceeded through the lobby, firing indiscriminately. He targeted a security guard who was attempting to shield himself behind the security desk and shot another man in the lobby before making his way to an elevator.
The suspect ultimately took his own life on the 33rd floor, the headquarters of Rudin, the building’s owners, after fatally shooting another victim. Commissioner Tisch noted that law enforcement sources in Las Vegas reported Tamura had a documented mental health history. Investigations into the motives behind the attack are ongoing.
In a statement from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, it was confirmed that a league employee was also seriously injured in the shooting. Goodell assured that the individual is currently hospitalized and in stable condition.
Following the attack, the FBI dispatched agents to assist the NYPD on-site. Attorney General Pam Bondi communicated via social media that a command post had been established by the U.S. attorney in New York, Jay Clayton, to support local efforts in response to the shooting.
As the investigation continues, the incident has left a deep impact on the community and raised urgent discussions about safety in public spaces. The NYPD has urged anyone with further information about the shooting to come forward as they work to piece together the events that led to this tragic outcome.
