Washington Regional Medical Center has finalized an agreement to acquire the operations of the Physicians’ Specialty Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas, with the transition set to take effect on December 1, 2023. As part of this acquisition, the hospital will be rebranded as the Washington Regional Physicians’ Specialty Hospital.

The facility, located at 3873 Parkview Drive, has been a component of the Northwest Health system since 2016. It is a 20-bed establishment equipped with five operating rooms, a procedure room, an imaging suite, a laboratory, and emergency care services. This acquisition allows Washington Regional to enhance its service offerings in the region.

Strategic Expansion in Northwest Arkansas

In a statement, Larry Shackelford, President and CEO of Washington Regional, emphasized the strategic importance of this acquisition. “Assuming operations of Physicians’ Specialty Hospital represents a strategic investment in the future of health care in Northwest Arkansas,” Shackelford noted. He elaborated that the addition of this campus will facilitate closer collaboration with local surgeons and significantly expand the hospital’s capacity for same-day and overnight surgical services.

This strategic move is designed to bolster Washington Regional’s ability to provide additional same-day surgical procedures and those that necessitate overnight hospitalization. The expansion underscores the medical center’s commitment to enhancing health care quality and accessibility in the area.

The rebranding and operational transition are expected to strengthen Washington Regional’s presence in Fayetteville and improve patient care options for the community. The medical center aims to leverage the existing infrastructure of the acquired facility while integrating its own services and resources to meet the growing health care demands in Northwest Arkansas.

As the region continues to see population growth and increased health care needs, this acquisition positions Washington Regional as a key player in addressing those challenges effectively. The medical center remains focused on delivering high-quality surgical services and improving health outcomes for residents in the area.
