Remembering Donna Maria Hoyem Babbs: A Life of Service and Love
Donna Maria Hoyem Babbs, aged 85, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 4, 2025, following a prolonged battle with cancer. Her departure marks the end of a life dedicated to family, faith, and community service.
Born on August 25, 1940, in Alhambra, California, Donna was the daughter of Evelyn Farrell and Carl Hoyem. After the early loss of her father, her mother remarried Donald H. Jones, who played an influential role in her upbringing alongside her siblings. The family relocated to North Tustin during Donna’s teenage years, where she completed her education at Mater Dei High School and later attended Orange Coast College.
For 13 years, Donna served as the student loan and due diligence officer for the Coast Community College District. Her commitment to education significantly impacted many students’ lives. Upon retiring, Donna embraced her passion for travel, exploring various countries with her husband, Donald Lee Babbs, to whom she was married for 65 years.
Community Involvement and Faith
Donna was deeply rooted in her Christian faith, contributing her time and resources to numerous charitable organizations aimed at assisting those in need. Her dedication to service was a hallmark of her character, inspiring those around her.
Survived by her husband, Donald, and their three daughters—Leigh Anne Nanci, Kelly Babbs, and Kristal Babbs—Donna leaves behind a loving family. She is also mourned by her son-in-law, Thomas Nanci, and her three grandchildren: Joseph Nanci (Kimberly), Jessica Greubel (John), and Johnathan Babbs (Charlotte). In addition, she is remembered by seven great-grandchildren, her brother Richard Jones, and sisters-in-law Susan Hoyem, Benita Jones, and Liza (Hoyem) Haynes. Her brothers, Carl (Jack) Hoyem and William Hoyem, preceded her in death.
Funeral Services and Legacy
Funeral services will take place at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Irvine on December 12, 2025, at 10 a.m. Following the service, an interment will be held, accompanied by a reception for family and friends to celebrate Donna’s life and legacy.
