Former US President Joe Biden has entered a new phase of cancer treatment following the spread of his prostate cancer to his bones. The 82-year-old announced in May 2023 that he was undergoing treatment for the illness. Recently, he also received treatment for skin cancer, which required a procedure known as Mohs surgery, leaving him with a noticeable bandage on his forehead.

Biden’s current treatment plan includes radiation therapy and hormone therapy, spanning five weeks. Reports indicate he is “doing well,” and his cancer is classified as hormone-sensitive, suggesting it is “likely” to respond positively to the current treatments. Previously, Biden disclosed that his cancer was diagnosed with a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5), indicating aggressive characteristics and that it had metastasized to his bones. According to Cancer Research UK, this score signifies that the cancerous cells appear very abnormal and are likely to proliferate rapidly.

Donald Trump’s Health Report

In a contrasting health update, Donald Trump has been reported to be in “exceptional health” following his second health check of the year. The 79-year-old former president attended the Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre in Maryland for a three-hour assessment that included lab tests and preventative health checks. He also received his annual flu vaccine and a Covid-19 booster during this visit.

Navy Captain Sean Barbabella, Trump’s physician, confirmed that the president’s cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, and physical performance are all strong. This evaluation is part of Trump’s ongoing health maintenance plan, especially ahead of his upcoming trips, including a summit in the Middle East regarding the Gaza deal and a visit to Asia later in the month.

Despite the positive health report, speculation surrounding Trump’s health persists. In July 2023, the White House acknowledged that he had a common condition causing blood pooling in his lower legs, which was revealed to counter claims about his health deteriorating. Historically, Trump has used health as a political tool, often disparaging Biden’s health in his rhetoric, despite facing his own health challenges.

As both former presidents navigate their health issues, the public continues to monitor their conditions, which carry significant implications for their political legacies and future engagements.
