A series of events aimed at combating authoritarianism will take place next week, featuring various initiatives led by artists and cultural workers. These gatherings are designed to inspire action and encourage communities to engage in discussions about resisting authoritarian governance.
On August 12, 2025, the event titled “Artists and Cultural Workers Against Authoritarianism” will be held online starting at 19:00 EDT. Participants can register through the Action Network website. This initiative seeks to unite creative professionals in a collective stand against rising autocratic tendencies.
The following day, August 13, “One Million Rising: Strategic Non-Cooperation to Fight Authoritarianism” will take place from 20:00 to 21:30 EDT. This online gathering encourages participants to form small groups and brainstorm strategies to counter the encroachment of authoritarian rule. Those interested in attending can RSVP via Mobilize.
One Million Rising and No Kings have previously conducted two training sessions that provide resources for community organizing. These sessions are available for viewing on the No Kings website, further empowering individuals to contribute to this critical dialogue.
On August 15, the campaign will culminate in a community visibility event known as #Be Brave Day. This initiative will feature demonstrations on overpasses and streets, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of standing up against tyranny. Individuals can participate by registering through the Visibility Brigade.
This series of events reflects a growing commitment among artists and cultural workers to address the threats posed by authoritarianism. As these gatherings approach, participants are encouraged to share their experiences and strategies for promoting democratic values and civic engagement.
