ArchWell Health has officially designated July 15, 2025, as the inaugural “Pink Letter Project Day,” launching a nationwide initiative aimed at improving breast cancer screening among women aged 60 and older. This project targets the more than 60 million women in the United States who fall into this age group, emphasizing the importance of early and regular mammogram screenings.
Breast cancer remains a significant health concern, particularly as risk factors increase with age. According to data from 2022, approximately 25% of women aged 50 to 74 in the U.S. are not current with their mammograms, indicating that around 15 million women may not be receiving the screenings they need. This gap in screening is often attributed to various barriers, including lack of health insurance, limited access to healthcare providers, and social determinants such as job loss or transportation challenges.
The “Pink Letter Project” encourages women to schedule their mammograms before the rush of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. ArchWell Health aims to address the scheduling challenges that often lead to delays in screening. Dr. Judith Ford, Chief Medical Officer at ArchWell Health, highlighted the ease of scheduling mammograms during the summer months. She stated, “Mammograms are essential and the most easily available protocol for detecting breast cancer in its earliest, most treatable stages.”
By promoting early scheduling, ArchWell Health hopes to prevent the influx of appointments that often overwhelms screening centers as October approaches. The organization is committed to enhancing the lives of older adults through comprehensive primary care and now seeks to reduce breast cancer mortality rates through this initiative.
As part of the “Pink Letter Project,” ArchWell Health will send personalized letters, adorned with a pink touch symbolizing breast cancer awareness, to members who are due or overdue for screenings. These letters will provide vital information on the importance of regular mammograms, details on how to schedule appointments, and answers to frequently asked questions. Additionally, each letter includes a personalized “order form” for members to bring to their screening centers.
In a further effort to engage the community, ArchWell Health Centers across the nation will distribute custom postmarked postcards. These postcards allow members to encourage friends and family to schedule their mammograms ahead of October. The initiative also includes social and educational events hosted at the centers from July 15 through October 31.
Through the “Pink Letter Project,” ArchWell Health aims to improve screening rates and thereby enhance early detection of breast cancer, which is crucial for effective treatment and better health outcomes. With its focus on providing excellent primary care for older adults, ArchWell Health continues to champion initiatives that positively impact the lives of its members.
