The weekend box office saw a vibrant performance from two music-themed films, with both making their mark in the top five. At No. 4, Twenty One Pilots: More Than We Ever Imagined — Live in Mexico City grossed $3.7 million across 836 screens. Notably, $2 million of this total was generated from 270 IMAX screenings after the film’s exclusive debut in that format on March 6, 2024.

This two-hour film documents the band’s largest concert to date, held for more than 65,000 fans at the Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City during their 2024-2025 Clancy world tour. It marks the band’s first full-length concert film, featuring a blend of live performances, fan reactions, and behind-the-scenes moments. Director Mark Eshleman explained to Billboard that the film provides a unique perspective, showcasing both the audience’s experience and intimate insights from band members Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun as they prepare for the show.

Eshleman described the film’s visual style, noting, “You get the giant, full-color scope of the event and then it goes down to letterbox with a different aspect ratio.” This approach allows viewers to feel the excitement from the fans’ perspective while also seeing the band’s candid moments before taking the stage.

In the fifth position, the documentary EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert, directed by Baz Luhrmann, earned $3.5 million during its second week of release. The film expanded to 1,940 screens and has accumulated a total of $7.8 million thus far. This documentary intertwines previously unreleased footage from Elvis Presley‘s iconic Las Vegas performances in the 1970s with scenes from his tours and archival material from Graceland.

Luhrmann’s film not only celebrates the musical legacy of the late rock legend but also includes recordings and clips that were unearthed during research for the 2022 film, Elvis. By blending concert footage with personal insights into Presley’s life, the documentary offers a fresh look at one of music history’s most influential figures.

Both films reflect a growing trend of music-oriented cinema resonating with audiences, highlighting the enduring appeal of live performances and the artists behind them. As fans continue to embrace these cinematic experiences, the box office performance of Twenty One Pilots and Elvis Presley serves as a testament to the power of music in film.
