Timothée Chalamet is set to reunite with director James Mangold for a new film titled ‘High Side’, a thrilling adaptation of a story by Jaime Oliveira. The project, described as a motocross bank robber thriller, has generated significant interest, leading to a competitive auction won by Paramount Pictures.

The film is based on Oliveira’s unpublished short story, which follows the life of a former MotoGP racer named Billy. Haunted by a crash that ended his racing career, Billy becomes embroiled in a world of crime after his estranged brother Cole, already pursued by the FBI, recruits him for a series of daring bank heists. The narrative unfolds as Billy navigates his troubled family dynamics and his transition from racing to crime, all while managing a complex relationship with Cole and a new romantic interest.

According to Deadline, the film will be produced by Chernin Entertainment. The studio’s co-chairs, Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein, expressed their enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We’re thrilled to be in business with visionary artists like James and Timothée.” They emphasized their commitment to original storytelling, highlighting the boldness of Oliveira’s creation as a central element of their collaboration with Paramount.

Mangold, known for his previous work on acclaimed films like ‘A Complete Unknown’, which received eight Oscar nominations, also shared his excitement about the partnership. He noted that Paramount executives possess a strong dedication to story-driven filmmaking, which made it easier for him and Chalamet to connect over this project.

Chalamet is currently filming the highly anticipated third installment of ‘Dune’ while also preparing for his role in ‘Marty Supreme’ directed by Josh Safdie. In the lead-up to ‘High Side’, Mangold has garnered attention for his work on action sequences in films like ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ and ‘Girl, Interrupted’.

Speaking to IndieWire, Mangold reflected on his collaborative approach to directing across various genres. He remarked on the importance of adaptability in filmmaking, saying, “At this point, I’ve known and befriended a lot of great directors… The one thing I can say consistently is that they may have a plan, but what we all do is if something better comes up, we jump on it.”

As the project progresses, audiences can expect a blend of high-octane action and emotional depth, characteristic of both Chalamet and Mangold’s previous works. With its unique premise and strong creative team, ‘High Side’ promises to be an exciting addition to the cinematic landscape when it hits theaters in the near future.
