Sean Combs’ Docuseries Tops Ratings in Netflix Debut Week
A documentary series centered on Sean “Diddy” Combs made a significant impact during its premiere week on Netflix, which spanned from December 1 to 7, 2025. Titled Sean Combs: The Reckoning, the series attracted 2.28 million minutes of viewing time in the United States. This strong performance would typically secure a leading position on the Nielsen streaming charts; however, it ranked second overall, falling short of the popular series Stranger Things.
Despite a decline from its record-breaking premiere week, Stranger Things maintained its dominance with 4.38 billion minutes of viewing time during the same period. This total marks the third highest weekly viewership for any title in 2025, trailing only its previous week’s performance of 8.46 billion minutes and Squid Game, which reached 4.6 billion minutes in early January.
Other Streaming Highlights
In addition to the competition from Stranger Things, Paramount+ enjoyed a successful week with its series Landman, which garnered 1.47 billion viewing minutes, an increase from 1.34 billion the prior week. The second season of this Texas-based series is currently running 27 percent ahead of its first season at the same point, according to Nielsen data.
Netflix also introduced a new western series titled The Abandons, which debuted with 623 million viewing minutes, making it the top new scripted series of the week. In the realm of movies, holiday-themed titles dominated the charts, with the classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) leading with 603 million minutes on Peacock.
Nielsen’s streaming ratings specifically cover viewing on television sets and do not account for viewing on computers or mobile devices. Additionally, these ratings reflect only U.S. audiences, without including international viewership.
As the streaming landscape continues to evolve, the competition for viewer attention remains fierce, with established series and new entries vying for dominance. The performance of Sean Combs: The Reckoning illustrates the ongoing interest in high-profile documentaries, particularly those that explore complex and controversial figures in pop culture.
