Netflix Unveils Trailer for Season 2 of Culinary Class Wars
Netflix is set to launch the second season of its popular Korean cooking competition series, Culinary Class Wars, on December 16, 2024. Following the success of its first season, which topped Netflix’s Global Top 10 (Non-English TV) list for three consecutive weeks, the streaming giant renewed the series in October. According to Gallup Korea, it was also named the “most beloved series among Korean viewers” in their September 2024 survey.
The show has played a significant role in revitalizing the dining scene in Seoul. It features a unique format where the ‘Black Spoon’ hidden masters challenge top chefs known as ‘White Spoon’ stars in a variety of intense kitchen competitions. This season, the White Spoon lineup includes acclaimed chefs such as two-Michelin-star chef Lee Jun, Son Jong-won, who has earned Michelin stars in both Korean and Western cuisine, and Venerable Sunjae, recognized as Korea’s first master of Buddhist temple cuisine. Other notable participants include Park Hyo-nam, a French cuisine legend, and chefs like Jung Ho-young, Sam Kim, and Raymon Kim.
The Black Spoon competitors boast intriguing nicknames such as ‘Three-Star Killer’ and ‘Culinary Monster,’ adding to the show’s dynamic atmosphere. Season 2 promises new rules, including the unexpected return of two masked contestants, alongside the signature blind tastings, which allow judges to evaluate dishes solely based on flavor.
Returning producers Kim Hak-min and Kim Eun-ji, along with writer Mo Eun-sol from Studio Slam, are set to bring fresh twists to the competition. Netflix’s commitment to Korean unscripted programming continues to grow, with the recent success of shows like Physical: Asia, which has also made its mark on the Global Non-English Top 10 list.
As Netflix invests further in this genre, the anticipation surrounding Season 2 of Culinary Class Wars reflects the platform’s strategy to appeal to a global audience through diverse and engaging content.
