Moon Sang Min Excited for Romantic Role in “To My Beloved Thief”
Moon Sang Min is set to showcase his charm in the upcoming romantic sageuk, “To My Beloved Thief,” premiering on January 3, 2024. The drama features him as Yi Yeol, a royal prince of Joseon, who unexpectedly switches souls with Hong Eun Jo, played by Nam Ji Hyun. Their journey begins when Hong Eun Jo becomes a bandit known as Gil Dong, leading to a series of events where they ultimately save each other and their people.
Explaining his decision to join the cast of “To My Beloved Thief,” Moon Sang Min highlighted his appreciation for the sageuk genre, particularly following his success in “Under the Queen’s Umbrella.” He expressed, “Among them, I found myself wanting to challenge a romance sageuk—one that centers on characters’ emotions and relationships—at least once, and that’s how I came across ‘To My Beloved Thief.’” His enthusiasm for the project is evident, as he appreciates the drama’s lighthearted tone while still allowing for deep emotional exploration.
Moon Sang Min described Yi Yeol as a character filled with contrasts. “His emotions came across very clearly to me,” he noted. Yi Yeol embodies a carefree and playful spirit, yet he possesses a sincere and devoted side when it comes to love. “I think Yi Yeol’s greatest charm lies in how moments that make you smile naturally coexist with moments where he earnestly lays bare his heart,” he added.
The actor has invested considerable effort into bringing Yi Yeol to life, focusing on his dialogue, expressions, and interactions with others to create an immersive experience for viewers. When asked about his most memorable flirting line from the series, Moon Sang Min pointed to a line from the teaser: “Is there a man you love? I’m flirting with you—and now I’m really going to start.” He believes this line encapsulates Yi Yeol’s honest and confident nature.
In addition to his romantic role, Moon Sang Min will also display his skills in traditional sageuk elements such as archery and horseback riding. He approached the action scenes with a sense of responsibility, stating, “Above all, I thought it was important to finish filming without any injuries.” Before filming began, he practiced basic martial arts movements and coordinated closely with the stunt team to ensure safety during the action sequences. “I hope the results come across as impressive on screen,” he said.
Fans can also catch Moon Sang Min in the drama “Cinderella at 2AM” ahead of the premiere of “To My Beloved Thief.” As anticipation builds for the new series, viewers can look forward to a unique blend of romance, action, and historical elements that promise to engage audiences.
