Michelle Williams is poised to secure her second Emmy Award for her poignant performance in FX’s limited series, Dying For Sex. This follows her first win for the acclaimed series Fosse/Verdon. The show, inspired by a popular podcast, chronicles the true story of Molly Kochan, who after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis, embarks on an exploration of her desires during her remaining days.

The limited series, which features an ensemble cast including Jenny Slate as Nikki Boyer, Molly’s best friend and podcast co-host, has garnered significant acclaim. Williams expressed her deep emotional connection to the story, stating, “I was moved by it. When I listened to the podcast, my heart immediately became attached to the story and to these people.” Her commitment to the role is evident, as she brings the complexities of Molly’s character to life, capturing the nuances that Emmy voters often seek.

Emmy Recognition and Personal Reflections

“Dying For Sex” has received an impressive total of nine Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. Williams is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress, with Slate also earning a nomination for Supporting Actress, and Rob Delaney recognized for his role as Neighbor Guy. Delaney remarked on the positive atmosphere during filming, saying, “You get a feel on set and the feel on this set was very, very good.”

Despite the buzz surrounding potential awards, Williams remains focused on the narrative itself. “You can’t really ever anticipate how people will respond or not respond to a piece of work that you do,” she explained. “You have to kind of put that out of your mind and just set your own goals and find satisfaction in the moment.” This perspective highlights her dedication to honoring the lives and love of Molly and Nikki as central to the series’ impact.

Slate also expressed gratitude for the journey, stating, “I’m feeling so grateful for the amount of encouragement I’m getting and for the amount of joy that I felt making this show and continue to feel.”

A Tribute to a Remarkable Story

The series holds special significance for the real-life Nikki Boyer, who served as an executive producer. Reflecting on the project’s emotional weight, she noted, “I love that everyone was so available to absorb the story and be willing to take it on and take it in.” When asked about how Molly might react to the Emmy discussions surrounding the show, Boyer became visibly emotional, sharing, “The funny thing about Molly is she was so humble and so sweet and so loving and so present that there would be part of her that would be like, ‘Can you believe this? This is unbelievable that my tiny little life means something so big.'”

“Dying For Sex” is currently available for streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+. The series continues to resonate with audiences, blending humor and heartbreak in a unique narrative that celebrates life, love, and the courage to embrace one’s desires. The Walt Disney Company is the parent entity of FX, Hulu, and this ABC station, further amplifying the series’ reach and impact.
