Lionsgate has achieved a remarkable milestone with the release of the teaser for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which amassed 109 million views globally within the first 24 hours of its debut on November 20. This impressive figure marks the studio’s second largest trailer launch to date, following closely behind the recent release of the teaser for Michael, which garnered 116 million views earlier this month.

Although Sunrise on the Reaping will not be released until November 20, 2026, the anticipation surrounding the prequel—based on the novel by Suzanne Collins—is palpable. The teaser’s release coincides with the ongoing success of the franchise, which has seen a resurgence with the stage adaptation The Hunger Games: On Stage recently opening in London.

The teaser’s success comes amid a notable demand for The Hunger Games franchise on streaming platforms. Lionsgate reported that a new Hunger Games digital bundle promotion on Apple TV reached the top of Apple’s charts, indicating a robust interest in the series.

The original Hunger Games series includes five critically acclaimed novels that have sold over 100 million copies worldwide, translated into 52 languages. The film adaptations have also seen considerable success, grossing over $3.4 billion globally across five films. The recent novel, Sunrise on the Reaping, sold over 1.5 million copies in its first week, achieving the largest debut for any title in Collins’ series. In the U.S. alone, it sold 1.2 million copies, more than double the opening sales of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and more than three times that of Mockingjay.

Returning to the director’s chair is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed multiple entries in the franchise since Catching Fire in 2013. The screenplay is adapted by Billy Ray, with franchise producers Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, and Lawrence overseeing production.

The ensemble cast includes notable actors such as Joseph Zada, Jesse Plemons, Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Mckenna Grace, Maya Hawke, Whitney Peak, and Kelvin Harrison Jr..

Set 24 years before the events of the original Hunger Games, Sunrise on the Reaping unfolds during the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, known as the Second Quarter Quell. As anticipation builds for both the film and the continued expansion of the franchise, Lionsgate appears poised to capture audience attention across various platforms.
