Lionsgate Selects Devon Singletary as Fan-Cast Winner for Hunger Games Prequel
Lionsgate has announced that Devon Singletary will appear in the upcoming film, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The selection follows a five-month open casting call, inviting fans to audition for a role in the sixth installment of the popular film series, set to be released in theaters on November 20, 2026.
Singletary, an actor and filmmaker based in Florida, expressed his excitement in a video posted on The Hunger Games official Instagram page. “I’m blown away,” he said, visibly thrilled by the announcement. “I’m really just speechless. I’m super excited.” In the video, fellow cast members including McKenna Grace, Whitney Peak, and Joseph Zada congratulated him on the achievement.
Fans of the franchise will be pleased to learn that Singletary will portray Blair, a close friend of Haymitch Abernathy and Burdock Everdeen, the father of Katniss Everdeen. The narrative will take viewers back to the world of Panem, nearly a quarter of a century before the events of the original series, focusing on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, known as the Second Quarter Quell.
Singletary’s journey began in May when Lionsgate opened auditions, encouraging fans to act out their favorite scenes, perform songs, or improvise for the chance to secure a role. The decision to include fan casting adds a unique element to the film, allowing dedicated supporters of the franchise to connect with the story in a new way.
Director Francis Lawrence, who has helmed every installment of the series since 2012, will return for this prequel. The film’s cast also features notable actors such as Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Ralph Fiennes, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Jesse Plemons, Billy Porter, and others, promising a robust ensemble.
As Singletary arrived on set for his first day, he shared his enthusiasm for participating in the project. “I love the ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ book,” he stated. “Being selected into the ‘Hunger Games’ is a great honor.” His inclusion highlights the franchise’s ongoing connection with its fanbase and the evolution of storytelling within the cinematic universe.
The anticipation for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping continues to grow as details emerge about the film’s plot and characters. With a dedicated fan casting initiative, Lionsgate aims to engage audiences in a fresh and exciting manner as they prepare to revisit the iconic world of Panem.
