Laika has revealed new footage from its upcoming film, Wildwood, showcasing the studio’s innovative approach to animation. The latest glimpses of the movie, presented during a re-release of ParaNorman, highlight the stunning visuals and technical achievements that Laika promises will make this film its most ambitious project to date.

The newly released video offers a captivating introduction to Laika’s legacy and features concept art displaying majestic aerial views of Portland. Among the highlights is the character of the General, an eagle characterized by her “unshakeable grace,” who is voiced by acclaimed actress Angela Bassett. The production team has meticulously designed this character, employing models inspired by nature and incorporating approximately 9,000 individual feathers into two distinct puppets—one for flight scenes and another for detailed performance.

Directed by Travis Knight, known for his work on Bumblebee, Wildwood is based on the 2011 children’s fantasy novel by Colin Meloy. The story revolves around a young girl named Prue McKeel and her classmate Curtis, who venture into a magical forest in search of Prue’s missing baby brother, Mac. The film’s voice cast also features talents such as Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, and Amandla Stenberg, all contributing to what promises to be a rich auditory experience.

Animation has long been Laika’s hallmark, and the studio’s commitment to detail is evident in the footage. The behind-the-scenes look shows animators and artists painstakingly bringing the General to life, emphasizing the idea of “pouring creativity in every joint, feather, and frame.” This dedication to craftsmanship is a point of pride for the studio, which highlights the “artistry, innovation, and heart” that have gone into the production of Wildwood.

As audiences anticipate the film’s release in 2026, Laika seems poised to deliver yet another captivating cinematic experience. The studio’s ability to blend technical skill with storytelling continues to set it apart in the world of animation, and Wildwood is shaping up to be a testament to its ongoing evolution. With its striking visuals and compelling narrative, the film is expected to resonate with audiences both young and old, further solidifying Laika’s reputation as a leader in the animation industry.
