Hotboii, the rising hip-hop artist, was arrested on July 9, 2023, for allegedly trespassing on school property while in possession of a firearm. Officers from the City of Doral responded to a call at approximately 03:40 a.m. regarding two “suspicious males” running through the parking lot of the Doral International Academy of Math and Science.
According to reports from TMZ Hip Hop, the incident escalated when Hotboii allegedly scaled a fence and was seen on surveillance footage throwing a black Carhartt bag over it. Upon investigation, authorities recovered a Glock 45 9mm firearm from the bag. He has been charged with possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, along with trespassing on school property.
This incident marks yet another legal challenge for the artist, whose real name is Shamar K. B. Johnson. His past encounters with the law include a July 2021 arrest related to a RICO indictment that involved allegations of gang activity and gun possession. Prosecutors accused him of being a leader of the 438 gang and claimed he utilized social media platforms to promote his affiliation.
In court, Hotboii’s attorney, Lyle Mazin, defended him by asserting that his online presence was aimed at promoting his music rather than a gang. “He wasn’t promoting a gang,” Mazin stated. “He was promoting his label and his music. That’s what he was doing. It’s equivalent to Biggie Smalls or Kodak Black, or any major artist promoting their music.”
As part of a plea deal in the earlier case, Hotboii pleaded guilty to one conspiracy charge and was sentenced to two years in prison, later released in September 2024. He was also placed on five years of probation. Unfortunately, his legal troubles did not end there; he faced another arrest in February 2024, although the specifics of that incident remain unclear. He was released shortly after his arrest, but the details surrounding his ongoing legal issues leave many questions unanswered.
