Golden Retriever’s Excitement Turns to Disappointment During Walk

A golden retriever named Charlie, living in Montreal, Canada, recently captured the hearts of social media users when his excitement for a walk turned to disappointment. In a video shared on October 7, 2023, by his owner, Lauren Lieberman, Charlie joyfully exits his apartment, only to realize he is headed for a grooming appointment instead of a stroll.
The clip, featured on Lieberman’s popular TikTok account, @laurenandcody, showcases Charlie’s exuberant reaction as he leaps from the elevator. His enthusiasm is palpable as Lieberman encourages him, saying, “You’re so excited to go for a walk!” However, the moment of joy quickly transforms into confusion when Charlie spots a purple mobile grooming van from Mobispaw parked outside.
Charlie halts in his tracks, staring at the van with disbelief. Despite Lieberman’s attempts to coax him forward, Charlie stubbornly tries to return inside the building. A staff member from Mobispaw, who greets him with a friendly wave, does little to ease his apprehension.
Lieberman shared with Newsweek her observations of Charlie’s behavior. “Honestly, when I used to take him to a brick-and-mortar groomer, it was much worse. He refused to get out of the car,” she said. “But with this mobile groomer, he throws a little fit when he sees the van, but then he goes in and he’s so happy.”
As the video unfolds, viewers watch Charlie receive affection and reassurance from a groomer named Marissa. Despite her efforts, he remains planted on the ground, necessitating a gentle nudge from Marissa to encourage him toward the grooming van. Lieberman humorously captioned the video: “POV: Your golden retriever couldn’t wait for his walk … until the biggest betrayal was waiting at the door.”
The video quickly gained traction, amassing over 12.9 million views. Commenters expressed their amusement, with one stating, “Cut the cameras,” while another remarked, “Betrayal list: Marissa.” Observations about Charlie’s dramatic behavior resonated with many viewers, with one commenter noting, “When they refuse to move, it’s like they suddenly become twice as heavy and suck themselves to the ground.”
In discussing Charlie’s antics, Lieberman commented, “It’s as if he purposely throws a little tantrum like a child. Once he’s actually in the van, he’s happy.” Following the grooming session, a subsequent video showed Charlie contentedly receiving his groom, including a nail trim and a well-deserved nap, looking clean and shiny.
Lieberman reassured concerned viewers, stating, “He loves Mobispaw and loves the groomer even more.” She noted that Charlie’s image is even featured on one of Mobispaw’s vans, highlighting their mutual affection.
For dog owners facing similar grooming challenges, the American Kennel Club offers advice. It suggests that getting dogs accustomed to being touched in various areas can alleviate grooming anxiety. Regular praise and treats can help ease the process, along with teaching pets to use scratch pads for nail maintenance.
As the video continues to entertain audiences, Lieberman invites others to share their own pet stories. “Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share? Send them to [email protected] with some details about your best friend, and they could appear in our Pet of the Week lineup.”
