Gina Carano Settles Lawsuit with Disney After Mandalorian Exit

Actress Gina Carano has reached a legal settlement with The Walt Disney Company following her firing from the popular series The Mandalorian. On August 7, 2025, both parties filed to dismiss her lawsuit, which claimed wrongful termination and political discrimination, marking the conclusion of a contentious legal battle that began in 2024.
The official court filing stated that all claims and defenses would be dismissed, pending a judge’s approval. In a joint statement, The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm expressed satisfaction with the resolution, saying, “Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect.” They also indicated a willingness to explore future collaborations with her.
Carano’s lawsuit stemmed from her removal from the series, which occurred after a controversial social media post in which she compared being a Republican to being Jewish during the Holocaust. Seeking reinstatement and at least $75,000 in damages, Carano’s claims highlighted issues of political discrimination in the entertainment industry.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, provided financial support for Carano’s legal fees, following a commitment he made in 2023 to assist individuals who lost their jobs due to their posts on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Upon filing her lawsuit, Carano conveyed her determination on social media, stating, “… and the truth shall set you free.” Following the settlement, she expressed optimism, saying, “I have come to an agreement with Disney/Lucasfilm which I believe is the best outcome for all parties involved. I hope this brings some healing to the force.” She also extended her gratitude to Musk, her legal team, and her fans, indicating her readiness to move forward in her career in the arts.
The settlement represents a notable shift in Carano’s relationship with Disney, as both parties seem eager to put the past behind them. As the entertainment landscape continues to evolve, this resolution may serve as a pivotal moment in discussions surrounding workplace conduct and freedom of expression in the industry.
