FilmSharks Acquires Rights to Political Thriller ‘Insurrección’

FilmSharks, based in Buenos Aires, has acquired all rights, including derivative intellectual property, to the politically charged action-thriller project titled “Insurrección.” The company has partnered with acclaimed Colombian actor and producer Marlon Moreno, known for his work on “El Capo” and “Dog Eat Dog.” The film, written by Colombian screenwriter Mauricio Marulanda González, is currently in development and will be produced in both Spanish and English versions.
The project aims to blend high-energy storytelling with a significant sociopolitical message, likening itself to a combination of “Public Enemy,” “The Bourne Identity,” and “Nuevo Orden.” Set against a backdrop of corruption and social unrest, “Insurrección” follows the story of Nicolás Díaz, a disillusioned law professor who leads a masked insurgent group that live-streams the trials and executions of corrupt politicians. As the group’s message resonates with the public, state forces attempt to unearth the identity of their enigmatic leader, only to discover he has taken on the identity of a man who died 22 years earlier.
Strategic Development with a Social Impact
This acquisition reflects FilmSharks’ commitment to developing bold and socially relevant intellectual properties with the potential for crossover appeal. Guido Rud, the company’s founder, emphasized the importance of investing in impactful stories that challenge political correctness. In a statement to Variety, he noted, “‘Insurrección’ echoes the unrest of Ibero-American societies – a cry against inequality and manipulation. It’s an IP built for high controversy, deep debate, and massive audience engagement.”
Moreno, who also serves as an executive producer and creative collaborator on the project, described “Insurrección” as an artistically ambitious endeavor. He articulated that the film serves as “a pulse, a collective and intimate call to question power, memory, and dignity.” Moreno aims to merge personal narratives with epic storytelling to interrogate contemporary societal issues.
FilmSharks’ Expanding Influence in Global Cinema
The announcement of this project further solidifies FilmSharks’ status as a significant player in the Ibero-American independent film industry. The company boasts over 35 production credits and has established partnerships with major studios such as Sony, Warner Bros., Universal, Disney+, Videocine, and Patagonik. In recent years, FilmSharks has expanded its focus from sales and remakes to original high-concept development, showcasing its versatility in both Latin American and Hollywood cinema.
In addition to “Insurrección,” Rud is involved in various upcoming projects, including Demian Rugna’s genre film “Félix,” the sci-fi movie “Pacífico,” and the Disney-backed thriller “Abracadáver.” The company’s continuous growth reflects a strategic pivot toward producing engaging narratives that resonate with contemporary audiences, reaffirming its role as a transformative force in the film industry.
