Fans of live sports will soon have a new option for streaming, as ESPN is set to launch its highly anticipated streaming service on August 21, 2025. This service, simply named ESPN, aims to combine various sports networks under one platform, expanding the viewing options for sports enthusiasts. The announcement comes after a series of developments, including a brief exploration of the Venu Sports concept earlier this year.

The ESPN streaming service will offer multiple channels, including the popular ESPN and ESPN2 networks, alongside content from ESPN Plus, which is being rebranded as ESPN Select. This transition aims to simplify the viewing experience while providing a comprehensive selection of sports programming.

Pricing and Subscription Options

ESPN’s new streaming service will be available for $29.99 per month or $299.99 annually. The launch package includes twelve channels, with plans to expand this lineup in the future. Subscribers can also choose the ESPN Select plan—formerly known as ESPN Plus—at a cost of $11.99 per month or $119.99 per year, which will continue to feature exclusive ESPN Plus content.

In an appealing promotional offer, customers can sign up for the ESPN Unlimited plan alongside a basic Disney Plus and Hulu bundle for just $29.99 per month for the first twelve months. This package provides a compelling value for viewers seeking a mix of sports and entertainment content.

Included Channels and Future Additions

The ESPN Unlimited plan will initially feature channels such as ESPN, ESPN2, and the SEC Network, among others. Notably, it does not provide access to local ABC channels but includes ESPN-branded programming like Monday Night Football.

Looking ahead, ESPN plans to integrate WWE Premium Live Events into the service by 2026, and has proposed acquiring the NFL Network, pending regulatory approval. If successful, this addition would further enhance the service’s content offerings at no additional cost to subscribers.

While fans may be eager to know about NFL RedZone, it currently appears that this programming will not be included in the new streaming service.

In addition to standalone subscriptions, ESPN is offering bundles with other streaming services. Subscribers can opt for a combination of ESPN Unlimited with the Fox One service—launching simultaneously—which consolidates Fox’s sports networks and local affiliates. This package will retail for $39.99 per month, providing a rich selection of live sports coverage.

For those more focused on variety, the Disney Plus and Hulu bundle is a more economical option, especially during the promotional period. After the first year, the price for this bundle will adjust to $35.99 per month.

As the launch approaches, questions surrounding the distinction between ESPN and ESPN Plus have arisen. The former will serve as the new streaming platform featuring live broadcasts from ESPN’s linear networks, while the rebranded ESPN Select will continue to provide exclusive content not available on traditional ESPN channels.

Despite the excitement surrounding the launch, the ESPN streaming service will initially be available only in the United States. International expansion plans remain unclear, but the service will cater to audiences through a newly enhanced ESPN app, which will be utilized by all subscribers.

As ESPN prepares for its entry into the competitive streaming market, the service promises to offer a robust sports viewing experience that meets the needs of today’s fans. With established partnerships and a diverse channel lineup, ESPN aims to redefine how sports content is consumed in the digital age.
