Dasha Nekrasova Dropped by Gersh After Controversial Podcast
Dasha Nekrasova, known for her role in the acclaimed series “Succession,” has been dropped by her talent agency, Gersh, following her appearance on a controversial podcast. The agency confirmed the decision to Variety on October 10, 2023, after Nekrasova and her co-host, Anna Khachiyan, hosted far-right commentator Nick Fuentes on their show, “Red Scare.”
The podcast episode sparked significant backlash due to its discussion of several contentious topics, including Fuentes’ controversial views on immigration and his inflammatory remarks regarding various social issues. Fuentes has been a polarizing figure, often criticized for his association with the “Groyper” movement, which has been accused of promoting racism and antisemitism.
Nekrasova, 34, portrayed Comfrey Pellits in “Succession,” a character involved in crisis public relations for the show’s central figure, Kendall Roy. Her career includes appearances in notable series such as “The Serpent,” “Dickinson,” and “Mr. Robot.” This incident marks a further chapter in Nekrasova’s history of controversial statements. In an interview with The New Yorker earlier in 2023, she made headlines for remarks questioning the legitimacy of the Papacy and making antisemitic insinuations.
Fuentes, aged 27, has a history of making inflammatory statements, including Holocaust denial and calls for a so-called “holy war” against Jews. His rhetoric has drawn condemnation from various quarters, including Jewish organizations and civil rights groups. Recently, he appeared on a podcast hosted by Tucker Carlson, where he made comments about “organized Jewry” without facing any challenge from Carlson, further igniting public outrage.
The controversy surrounding Fuentes escalated when his podcast, “America First,” was permanently removed from Spotify for violating hate speech guidelines. A spokesperson for Spotify stated, “In 2020, we removed this show for repeated violations of our Platform Rules.” The platform emphasized that while specific content can be banned, creators like Fuentes can still produce new material as long as it does not breach the platform’s policies.
Nekrasova’s departure from Gersh underscores the growing scrutiny faced by public figures regarding their associations and statements. The entertainment industry has increasingly taken a stand against individuals whose views are perceived as harmful or divisive. As this situation continues to unfold, it raises important questions about the intersection of creativity, personal beliefs, and professional consequences in today’s socially conscious climate.
