Colin Farrell has expressed his admiration for the script of The Batman Part II, calling it a “masterwork” during a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. As the actor prepares to reprise his role as Oswald Cobblepot, also known as the Penguin, in the continuation of the Matt Reeves-directed franchise, he shared insights about the film’s promising potential.

The new installment of the Batman saga is set to shoot in 2024, with a release date scheduled for October 2027. Farrell highlighted the depth and intelligence of the script, praising its contemporary take on the superhero genre. “I had so many thoughts and feelings to share with Matt about the script,” he remarked. “It’s so brilliant, and Robert Pattinson has got such a lovely journey to go on and take the audience through.”

The actor’s enthusiasm for the project is palpable, as he described the script as “dense,” “really, really intelligent,” and “detailed.” Farrell noted, “It’s really extraordinary. I think he’s going to make an extraordinary film.” His comments reflect the high expectations surrounding the sequel, especially following the success of the original film and its HBO series spin-off.

Reflections on Sgt. Rock

While Farrell is focused on his upcoming role in the Batman universe, he also reflected on a potential role as Sgt. Rock in a separate DC film project. Originally, Daniel Craig was rumored to take on the role, which was set to be directed by Luca Guadagnino. However, as the project developed, Farrell became interested but noted that it ultimately did not materialize.

When asked about the status of the Sgt. Rock film, Farrell admitted, “I know nothing about it, brother. I was going to do it with Luca. We spoke a couple of times. Had some really nice chats. I have no idea where it is now. But it should be made. It’s really, really good. There’s some wonderful stuff in it.”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the Sgt. Rock project, Farrell’s commitment to his role in the Batman franchise remains strong. As he prepares to return as the Penguin, audiences can anticipate a compelling showdown between his character and Batman in the upcoming film.

With his deep appreciation for the storytelling involved in the DC Universe, Colin Farrell continues to captivate fans with his insights and performances. The excitement surrounding The Batman Part II sets the stage for what could be another remarkable chapter in the Gotham saga.
