Capcom Unveils Resident Evil 2: Arcade for Late 2025 Launch

Capcom has officially announced the upcoming release of a new arcade adaptation titled Resident Evil 2: Arcade, scheduled for late 2025. This new version diverges from the traditional home console experience, aiming to create an immersive arcade environment.
The announcement did not specify an exact release date, but a new trailer was revealed, showcasing the game’s on-rails gameplay. Players will navigate familiar locations from the original Resident Evil 2 remake, including the Raccoon City Police Department, from a first-person perspective. The trailer features iconic enemies such as Mr. X, infected dogs, and Lickers, while players can team up as characters Leon and Claire in a cooperative mode.
According to the announcement, Resident Evil was deemed the perfect franchise to create what Capcom describes as the “ultimate gun-shooting game.” They aim to deliver a premier experience that fully engages players. Notably, the arcade cabinet will include features such as air blasts and vibrating floors, designed to enhance the overall sense of fear and excitement.
While there are currently no plans for a home console release, two location tests will allow select players to experience the game before its official launch. The North American test is set for winter 2025, while the Japanese test is scheduled for spring 2026. Specific details regarding the locations of these tests have yet to be disclosed.
This latest announcement also comes with a change in the game’s title. Previously referred to as Resident Evil 2: Dead Shot, the new subtitle Arcade simplifies the branding and reduces potential confusion among fans.
The Resident Evil franchise has a rich history with arcade games and on-rails shooting mechanics. Titles such as Resident Evil Survivor 2 – Code: Veronica and Dead Aim have previously explored this genre. The upcoming Arcade edition is positioned to reinterpret elements from the Resident Evil 2 remake while providing a fresh gaming experience.
As excitement builds for this new adaptation, fans are eager to see how Capcom will integrate classic elements of the franchise with innovative arcade technology. The combination of nostalgia and cutting-edge features promises to make Resident Evil 2: Arcade a noteworthy addition to the franchise’s legacy.
